Softening and scale prevention
Less scale, better thermal efficiency and longer-lasting equipment. Removes calcium and magnesium hardness to prevent scaling in boilers, heat exchangers and piping.

Softeners at the General Enríquez plant20 L/s of soft water
What it is and how it works
Calcium and magnesium dissolved in water (hardness) form scale in equipment and systems. The softener removes them by ion exchange: a cation resin captures calcium and magnesium and releases sodium in their place. When the resin is saturated, it is automatically regenerated with brine (industrial salt) and goes back into service.
- 1The resin captures Ca and MgAnd releases sodium in their place.
- 2The resin becomes saturatedAfter the programmed time or volume.
- 3Automatic regenerationBrine recharges it and the unit goes back into service.
Benefits
- Prevents scaling in boilers, heat exchangers and cooling towers.
- Improves heat transfer and reduces fuel consumption.
- Reduces cleaning shutdowns and equipment replacement.
- Improves the performance of detergents and process chemicals.
- Protects reverse osmosis membranes against scaling.
Technical features
- Industrial-grade cation resin.
- Automatic regeneration by time or by treated volume.
- Single or alternating duplex configuration for soft water 24 hours a day.
- Brine tank with level control.
- Outlet hardness typically below 1 mg/L as CaCO₃.
- Flow rates from 0.1 to 165 m³/h.
