Hardness-free drinking water for 55,000 residents of Antonio Ante
We designed, assembled and installed the filtration and softening system of the «General Enríquez» drinking water plant. It treats 20 L/s of well water and meets NTE INEN 1108.
- ClientMunicipal Government of Antonio Ante

«General Enríquez» water treatment plantMunicipal drinking water
Well water with almost four times the hardness of very hard water
The deep wells that supply Atuntaqui delivered water with 700 mg/L of hardness as CaCO₃. The municipal government needed to remove it without interrupting service.
- Scale in the networkDeposits in pipes and distribution networks.
- Affected equipmentDeposits in water heaters, faucets and equipment in homes and businesses.
- Standard to meetWater fit for human consumption according to NTE INEN 1108.
Total water hardnessmg/L as CaCO₃
According to the USGS classification, water is very hard from 180 mg/L. The well water was almost four times that value.
- 20 L/scontinuous flow
- 50 PSIoperating pressure
- 0 mg/Lhardness in the treated water
- < 5 NTUturbidity
Treatment train: from the well to the network
Three stages and 12 fiberglass tanks treat 20 L/s of well water before delivering it to the distribution network.

- 1Pumping
- 2Sediment filtration
- 3Softening
- Distribution network

1
Pumping
Draws water from the well and drives it through the whole train with stable flow and pressure.
- 3 centrifugal pumps
- 20 L/s continuous flow
- 50 PSI operating pressure

2
Sediment filtration
Retains suspended solids so the water reaches the resin clean.
- 6 fiberglass tanks
- High-purity zeolite over gravel
- Manual backwash valves
- Final turbidity below 5 NTU

3
Softening
The cation resin retains calcium and magnesium and delivers water with 0 mg/L hardness.
- 6 fiberglass tanks
- Ion exchange cation resin
- Automatic regeneration valves
- Brine suction and tank
From design to validation
A single team handled the entire project, and the treated water meets the national standard.
What Sanitron did
- Engineering and designTreatment system tailored to the well water.
- SupplyFiberglass tanks, zeolite, cation resin and valves.
- Assembly and installationComplete electromechanical installation at the plant.
- Start-up and validationTests and physicochemical control according to NTE INEN 1108.
Results
- 0 mg/L hardnessWell below the limit allowed by NTE INEN 1108.
- Scale-free networksPipes and distribution networks protected against scaling.
- Verified compliancePeriodic monitoring by the municipal government confirms the physicochemical and biological parameters.
