Technical assessment of the condition and performance of water treatment plants

We evaluate the operating conditions and performance of treatment systems by reviewing technical information, carrying out inspections and analyzing relevant parameters, in order to identify deviations from the applicable design and operating criteria and establish an objective basis for decision-making.

If you don’t know your plant’s real condition, you can’t make good decisions

Performance deviations, equipment wear and changes in operating costs can go unnoticed until they become bigger problems. A technical audit identifies these situations, evaluates their causes and defines which actions to prioritize.

  • Plant performance has droppedLower-than-expected flows, higher chemical consumption or more frequent cleaning without an identified cause.
  • You need to prepare for an external auditReview of the system’s condition, available records and technical gaps against the applicable requirements of clients, regulators or certification bodies.
  • You’re about to acquire or take over a plantAssessment of its operating condition, equipment status and intervention needs before you commit to the investment.
  • Operating costs keep risingIdentification of possible causes related to energy and chemical consumption, maintenance and component replacement.
  • You want an independent technical assessmentA second opinion to compare diagnoses, validate recommendations and support decisions about plant operation.

What an audit with Sanitron gives you

  • An independent technical assessmentWe evaluate how your water treatment system works with an objective technical perspective, focused on identifying deviations, improvement needs and optimization opportunities.
  • Clear, prioritized findingsWe identify the aspects that need attention and present technical recommendations ranked by importance to help you make informed decisions.
  • Evaluation of processes and equipmentWe review the system’s processes and components according to the audit scope, considering their operation, performance and maintenance or improvement needs.
  • Technical information to support your decisionsReceive a report with the findings, technical observations and corresponding recommendations to support the planning and management of your system.
  • Recommendations to improve performanceGet a technical basis for defining the corrective actions and improvement opportunities worth prioritizing, according to your plant’s conditions.

What we evaluate in your plant

We analyze four system components according to the scope defined for the audit. We evaluate compliance with current environmental regulations, applicable legal requirements and technical criteria related to water management and treatment.

1Process

Treatment performance

  • Water quality at the different process stages.
  • Inlet, product and reject flows, as applicable.
  • Energy and chemical consumption.
  • Water losses and flow balance.
  • Process performance against the available design parameters.

When does it apply? When you need to know treatment performance and identify deviations from the expected parameters.

2Equipment

Physical condition and instrumentation

  • Condition of pumps, valves, tanks and piping.
  • Condition of membranes, resins and filter media, where present.
  • Review of the calibration and verification status of measuring instruments.
  • Operation of control, automation and alarm systems.
  • Condition of critical components and maintenance or replacement needs.

When does it apply? When evaluating equipment condition, measurement reliability and maintenance or intervention needs.

3Compliance

Applicable requirements and documentation

  • Legal and technical requirements applicable to the system.
  • Availability and consistency of operating records.
  • Procedures, logbooks and technical documentation.
  • Identification of gaps against the evaluated requirements.
  • Review of the documentation available for external inspections.

When does it apply? When you need to verify the documentary and technical status against previously defined requirements.

4Operation

Operating practices and management

  • Procedures used in daily operation.
  • Maintenance activities and related records.
  • Skills and training of the staff involved.
  • Logging and follow-up of incidents, alarms and shutdowns.
  • Organization of operating activities and improvement opportunities.

When does it apply? When you need to review how the system is operated and maintained under normal working conditions.

What an audit looks like from start to finish

The process runs in six phases, from defining the scope to presenting the results.

  • Defining scope and objectivesThe systems to be evaluated, the audit objectives and the applicable technical requirements are defined.
  • Document reviewDrawings, water analyses, operating records, procedures and maintenance history are reviewed.
  • Inspection and data collectionThe facilities are inspected and measurements and technical information are collected according to the established scope.
  • Technical analysisThe collected information is evaluated to identify deviations, possible causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Findings and recommendations reportThe findings, their criticality and the corresponding technical recommendations are documented.
  • Presentation of results and next stepsThe results and recommended actions are presented to guide improvement planning.

Technical audit deliverables

A technical report with the evaluation results, the findings identified and recommendations to guide decision-making.

  • Executive summary of results
  • System performance evaluation
  • Findings matrix ranked by criticality
  • Evaluation of equipment and instrumentation condition
  • Gaps against applicable requirements
  • Technical recommendations and investment estimates, where possible
  • Priority actions in the short, medium and long term
  • Presentation of results to the responsible team, depending on scope

Information needed to quote an audit

To prepare a technical and commercial proposal suited to the plant's characteristics, we recommend having the following information available.

  • Plant type and installed treatment technologies.
  • Audit objective and reason for the request.
  • Deadline or required timeframe, if applicable.
  • Drawings and available technical documentation.
  • History of failures, deviations or operating problems.
  • Regulatory requirements or specific client requirements.
  • Facility location.

Frequently asked questions about technical audits

How long does a technical audit take?

The duration depends on the plant size, installed technology, information available and scope of the evaluation. The estimated timeline is defined in the technical proposal.

Can you audit plants that Sanitron didn't install?

Yes. The evaluation can be carried out on treatment systems installed by other suppliers, according to the scope and the technical information available.

What information is needed before the audit?

We recommend having drawings, operating records, water analyses, procedures and maintenance history. Specific requirements are detailed before the service begins.

Does the audit interrupt plant operation?

The evaluation is coordinated with the responsible staff to minimize interference with operation. Any measurements or inspections that require special conditions are agreed in advance.

Can the report be submitted to regulators or clients?

The report documents the findings and technical observations within the contracted scope. Its acceptance by third parties depends on each body's or client's specific requirements, and it does not replace an official audit, certification or regulatory authorization.

What if the plant is working properly?

The audit documents the conditions evaluated, establishes a performance baseline for the system and identifies continuous improvement opportunities.

Does the audit include implementing the recommended improvements?

The audit focuses on technical evaluation and recommendations. Implementing improvements is defined separately, based on the needs identified and the services contracted.
