60 m³/day of drinking water for PRONACA, from well water
We designed, supplied, installed and commissioned a complete oxidation, sedimentation, multimedia filtration and ultrafiltration plant that makes the water drinkable in accordance with standard INEN 1108-2020.

TurbiMax 101 and SaniCarb 850Filtration ahead of ultrafiltration
Well water with iron and manganese, turned into drinking water
PRONACA needed to treat 60 m³/day of well water and remove metals such as iron and manganese, organic compounds and suspended solids to meet the INEN 1108 drinking water standard.
- Dissolved metalsIron and manganese that give the water color and taste.
- Organics and solidsOrganic compounds and suspended solids in the well water.
- Controlled microbiologySafe drinking water for a food plant.
Three moments in the 2,000 L hopperhow iron and manganese leave the well water
Whatever doesn’t settle is retained by the TurbiMax 101 filter and the ultrafiltration, which is also a physical barrier against bacteria and viruses.
- 60 m³/dayof drinking water
- 2,000 litersoxidation and settling hopper
- 0.02 µmultrafiltration barrier
- 5,000 litersbackwash and CIP tank
Treatment train: from the well to drinking water
Six stages: first the metals are precipitated, then the water is filtered, and ultrafiltration blocks bacteria and viruses.
- Oxidation and settlingDiaphragm pumps dose oxidant and coagulant, and a hopper with online ORP precipitates the metals and organic matter.2,000 L hopper
- Pumping and buffer tankA horizontal centrifugal pump takes the settled water from a buffer tank to filtration.200 L tank
- Sediment filtrationTurbiMax 101 aluminosilicate media that retains the solids left by oxidation.Larger than 5 µm
- Activated carbonSaniCarb 850 removes oxidants, organic matter, color, odor and taste.Color, odor and taste
- UltrafiltrationA membrane that acts as an absolute physical barrier, even for bacteria and viruses.0.02 to 0.03 µm
- Backwash and CIPReinforced polyethylene tank on an SS304 stainless steel frame, with a dedicated pump.5,000 L tank

Automation and control
- Horner PLC with 2.2″ HMI screen and IP65 protection rating.
- Online ORP monitor to control oxidation and settling.
- Turbine flowmeter, pressure gauges, pressure switches, 2- and 3-way actuated valves and a compressor for air-assisted UF backwashes.
- Pressure alarms
- Tank level
- Motor thermal protection
- Air backwash
Complete turnkey plant
Sanitron designed, supplied, installed and commissioned the complete plant, trained PRONACA’s operators and handed it over with a one-year warranty.
What Sanitron did
- Detailed engineeringSizing and design of the complete potabilization train.
- SupplySettling tanks, pumps, fiberglass tanks, filter media and UF membranes.
- InstallationElectromechanical installation, control panels and hydraulic and pneumatic piping.
- CommissioningStart-up tests, parameter setting, training and handover with a one-year warranty.
Results
- 60 m³/day of drinking waterStable production in accordance with standard INEN 1108-2020.
- Metals and pathogens removedOxidation, coagulation, multimedia filtration and ultrafiltration combined.
- Continuous operationAutomation that reduces the risk of unexpected shutdowns.
